Meet Your Steward
The woman who built the House - and chose to remain within it.
I'm Deanna Vaughn.
My own reproductive story taught me how much can be missed when we look only at what is happening instead of sitting with the whole of a woman's story.
That experience changed the way I listen, the way I ask questions, and ultimately, the kind of place I wanted to build for women.
Welcome. I'm glad you're here.
I know what it is to need answers.
Because before I became the Steward, I was a woman trying to make sense of my own story.
I know what if feels like to sit with a reproductive story that doesn't make sense.
I know the cycle of hoping, testing, waiting, researching, asking questions - and still wondering whether something has been missed.
My own journey included years of infertility, an 'unexplained infertility' diagnosis, endometriosis, procedures, failed IUIs, surgery, IVF, and all of the physical and emotional weight that came with them.
But infertility was only one part of my story.
I was also a Nurse Practitioner. A Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner. A woman trained to understand medicine who suddenly found herself on the other side of it - trying to understand her own body, her own care, and what to do next.
That experience changed me.
It taught me the difference between having information and having someone willing to sit down with the whole story.
Training taught me how to look. Experience taught me how to listen.
Before The Balanced Womb, I spent years in healthcare - as a nurse, a Family Nurse Practitioner, and working within functional and integrative medicine.
I learned how to take a history, interpret patterns, understand medications and laboratory findings, ask clinical questions, and recognize when something deserves a deeper look.
But my own experience as a patient taught me something my training could not:
A woman's story rarely fits neatly into a chart.
Her nutrition matters. Her sleep matters. Her stress matters. Her relationships, beliefs, medical experiences, medications, symptoms, questions, fears, and the things she has quietly learned about her own body matter too.
Not because everything is a 'root cause.'
Because all of it belongs to her.
Today, I bring those two perspectives together - not as your healthcare provider, but as the Steward beside you: helping you understand what has happened, notice what may deserve a deeper look, and carry better questions into what comes next.
I Became the Steward.
Somewhere along the way, my work stopped being about finding the right answer and became about caring well for the woman asking the question.
I have known what it is to be both the clinician and the patient.
To understand the language of medicine - and still leave with questions.
To have access to information - and still struggle to understand how all of the pieces of my own story belonged together.
And I began to realize that what I had needed wasn't another person promising to fix me.
I needed someone willing to sit with the whole story.
Someone who could listen before deciding.
Who could help me understand what I knew, recognize what I didn't, and ask better questions about what came next. Someone who respected medicine without pretending medicine held every answer.
Someone who could see the woman while we were looking at the problem.
That is the kind of care I wanted to offer.
And eventually, that became something larger than a service.
It became a House.
A place built to hold the many seasons of a woman's reproductive life - and a Steward willing to meet her wherever in that story she happens to be.
When you sit down with me...
I won't begin by deciding what is wrong.
I'll begin by listening.
We'll look at where you've been, all the hard work you've already done, what you've been told, what you understand - and what sill doesn't quite make sense.
I will bring my clinical background, functional medicine experience, and lived perspective to the table. But I will also bring curiosity.
I may notice connections worth exploring. I may help you identify questions you haven't known to ask. I may help translate something that has felt confusing or help you recognize where you are already well supported. And I won't go looking for something to fix simply because you came to me.
My role is to help you understand your story more clearly, recognize what may deserve a deeper look, and prepare you to carry better questions into whatever comes next.
I will respect the role of your healthcare providers. I will stay within mine. And I will never promise you an outcome I cannot guarantee.
That is what Stewardship means to me.
Making Room for the Whole Story before deciding what it means.
Helping you understand what you already have in front of you.
Helping you understand where you are in the story.
Bringing light to what feels confusing or disconnected.
Recognizing what may be worth exploring next.
There is a place for your story here.
You do not need to know exactly what you need before you come.
If something in your story still doesn't make sense,
if you're wondering what deserves a deeper look,
or if you simply want someone to sit down and look at the whole of it with you -
come meet me.
We can begin there.
